لم يكن أحد يعرف السرّ الذي يكتنفُ ذلك البيت الكبير الأسود الرابض على ربوة عالية في إحدى القرى البعيدة، لم يكن سكان القرية يجرؤون على الإقتراب من ذلك البيت، كلهم يتذكرون المآسي في الأيام السالفة، حين سكنت هذا البيت عائلة السيد عبد الله نعمان، فماتت ابنته الصغيرة وأصيبت زوجته بالعمى، ثم خسر كل أمواله، أو عائلة السيد عادل عزيز الذي سكنه مدة شهرين فقط فطلّق زوجته ثم أصيب بالجنون، أو عائلة أسامة عبد الحميد الذي قتلته زوجته ثم وجدوها ميتة في الحديثة من دون سبب واضح.. أو عائلة فلان وفلان... والمآسي تتكرر... ولكن الناس اعتقدوا أن السبب هو البيت المخيف الذي تنتهي قصص الأفراد الذين يقيمون فيه نهايات تعيسة حزينة..
لذا أطلق عليه أهل القرية اسم (البيت الأسود) وظل مهجوراً لا يسكنه أحد...
