صدر المؤلف الكتاب بسورة الفاتحة، قائلاً: "لم يظفر كتاب من الكتب -سماوياً أو أرضياً - في أية أمة من الأمم، قديمها وحديثها، بمثل ما ظفر به القرآن الكريم على أيدي المسلمين، ومن شارك في علوم المسلمين: فما كان الحفظ والتخليد بمجرد بقاء ألفاظه وكلماته مكتوبة في المصاحف، ومقروءة بالألسنة، متعبداً في المساجد والمحاريب، إنما الحفظ والخلود بهذه العظمة التي شغلت الناس، وملأت الدنيا، وكانت مثاراً لأكبر حركة فكرية اجتماعية عرفها البشر" . ويتناول الكتاب مجموعة من الموضوعات، في فصول عدة، يبين خلالها فضل القرآن الكريم، ولماذا سورة الفاتحة، وماذا عن معالمها، إضافة إلى تخصيص أحد الفصول عن "الاستعاذة" وآخر عن "البسملة" وغيرهما عن "الحمد لله" أو "الرحمن الرحيم" و"غيرها من الكلمات والآيات التي تتضمنها السورة" . ويختم الكاتب مؤلفه بالإشارة إلى أن سورة الفاتحة ربانية مباركة، تبرز معاني الربوبية، وأن أسباب الفلاح وسيلة، وحيازته غاية تمت بأصولها إلى هذه السورة الكريمة، بما تضمنته من أصول يستقيم بها العبد في الدنيا، وتسلك به طريق النجاة في الآخرة . وفي خاتمة كتابه يشير إلى تاريخ البشرية في التزام الحق قولاً وعملاً ، وإلى تاريخ آخر للبشرية في التنكب عن العلم والعمل، والسورة في رأيه تحمل، كل ما فصل في القرآن الكريم ويدل على الحق أو الضلال، ومن هنا كانت الفاتحة مقدمة الكتاب، وأم الكتاب
