يأتي هذا الفهرس كحلقة من سلسلة "فهارس كتب السنة" وقد تناول المؤلف فيه "مسند الشافعي" الذي قام بترتيبه على الأبوب الفقهية المحدث البارع محمد عابد السندي (1257هـ)، وهو من أفضل الكتب التي جمعت أحاديث الإمام الشافعي، وقد طبع بتحقيق يوسف علي الزواوي الحسني وعزت العطار الحسيني بالقاهرة عام 1370هـ/1951م في جزءين بمجلد واحد.
هذا وليعلم أن الإمام الشافعي لم يؤلف كتاباً باسم "مسند الشافعي" وإنما قام بجمع أحاديثه من كتابه "الأم" ومن سائر تصانيفه أبو العباس الأصم (346هـ)، وهو ما تم العرض له بدراسة توثيقية في مقدمة هذا الكتاب قبل الخوض في فهرس أحاديث الكتاب، مع عرض لدليل هذا الفهرس.
