لا أعتقد أن هناك مسألة أثارت النقاش "ولاتزال تثيره" أكثر مما أثارته قضية المنهج الذى يمكن أن يستخدم فى أضاءة العمل الأدبى ولعل خطورة المسألة تتضخم أمام الطالب الساعى إلى البحث والمعرفة والمقدم على أول تجاربه النقدية فهو يجد فى نفسه أمام مخزون من النظريات المختلفة التى تزعم كلها أنها اكتسبت الوسائل المقنعة للدخول إلى عالم النص واكتشاف أسرار التعبير الأدبى.
ونحن ازاء كل هذه الاختلافات النظرية والابيستيمولوجية بين هذه المدارس النقدية حاولنا أن نكون أوفياء أولا وبالذات إلى طبيعة تصورنا للآداب. فأستخدمنا أساسا أكثر المناهج تطوراً فى نظرنا أى تلك التى تعطى الأولوية للنص الأدبى لأنه لا شك فى أهمية أكتشاف بنية الأثر الأدبى الداخلية ولا شك كذلك فى أنه لا سبيل إلى تحديد دلالة الأثر الأدبى بغير البدء بهذه البنية الداخلية. ولذلك أعتمدنا فى تفكيكنا للخطاب الروائى على نتائج المدرسة الهيكلية.
وأختيارنا الاعتماد على الدراسة الداخلية لنص أولا لم يمنعنا من السعى إلى تحديد العلاقات الممكنة بين الاثرين موضوعى البحث والسياق الاجتماعية التى أفرزتها. فبينا العلاقة بين "الزينى بركات" وفترة الستينات فى مصر وبين "كتاب التجليات" وبعض الأوضاع السياسية والاجتماعية التى اعقبت موت عبد الناصر من تغير لطبيعة الاقتصاد المصري ومن تطبيع للعلاقات مع أسرائيل من دون السقوط فى أية مهاترات سياسية او أيديولوجية وإنما استندنا فى كل ذلك إلى منطوق النص الصريح "وهو مايبرر التجاءنا إلى الاستشهاد فى كل مسألة نثيرها" وتفادينا قدر الإمكان التأويلات العاطفية الحاملة لأحكام قيمية.
وأختيارنا الأعتماد على النص أولا لم يمنعنا أيضا من الأستفادة من المناهج الاجتماعية فالتجأنا أساسا إلى لوكاتثر. وأحلنا عليه مرات عدة وخاصة فيما يتعلق بتصوراته الفنية والسياسية والأيديولجية التى أحتواها بحثه عن الرواية التاريخية.
