وجدت أن السيوطى (ت 911هـ) وهو عالم دينى ولغوى عظيم، اشتهر بحبة للعلم، وبغزارة مؤلفاتة، وسعة معارفه، وكان دائرة معارف العصر المملوكى، وهو بذلك قرين الجاحظ فى العصر العباسى، قد كتب مقامات لم تحظ بأهتمام الدارسين مع أهميتها وتنوعها وتميزها الفنى ودلالتها على الشخصية الادبية للسيوطي، وقد أهملت دراستها وطغى عليها الجانب العلمى الذى اشتهر به السيوطى، واهتم به الدارسون قديمآ وحديثآ، وغطى هذا الجانب على الجانب الأدبى، وكان حريا به أن يستأثر بالأهتمام لأنه لا يقل أهمية عن الجانب العلمى فى الدلاله على شخصية السيوطى، وعلى شخصية الادب المصري، ممثلة فى مقاماته، وقد وفقنى الله للقيام بهذة الدراسة التى تغطى هذا الجانب الذى لم أجد على حد علمى دراسة مستقلة فيه، مع كثرة ما اطلعت عليه من كتب ودراسات عن المقامات العربية، وقد كانت مهمتى فى هذا البحث شاقة، فما كتب عن مقامات السيوطى قليل، متناثر فى ثنايا الكتب والأبحاث التى مرت على مقامات السيوطى مرا سريعآ فى إطار العرض التاريخى لفن المقامة العربيه، أو فى إطار المقارنات القليلة بين مقامات الهمذانى والحريرى وبين مقاماته، وتكمن الصعوبة التى واجهتها فى هذه الدراسة، كذلك، فى كثرة عدد مقامات السيوطى، وفى طولها، إذ لم تكن أحاديث قصصية قصيرة كتبت فى صفحات قليلة كما كان الحال فى مقامات الهمذانى والحريرى وغيرهما، بل كانت، فى بعضها، أشبه بكتب أو كتيبات.
