يشكل التضاد ملمحاً فكرياً وجمالياً وسمة فنية وأسلوبية بارزة في تجربة أمل دنقل الشعرية، وقد أسهم هذا الملمح إسهاماً واضحاً في تشكيل البنى اللغوية المكوّنة لنصه الشعري، وهي البنى التي جسّدت رؤيته الخاصة في معاينته للحياة والمجتمع والعالم، وفي معاينته لموضوعاته الشعرية المتشكلة من حصيلة تكوينه المعرفي العام.
في إطار هذه المعاينات الفكرية والجمالية، وفي إطار واقعه الإجتماعي المعيش، كان مفهوم الحرية المطلق هو الهاجس الأكبر الذي أسّس لوعيه الضدي الخاص لعالمه من حوله، أي أنه الهاجس الأساسي الذي أفرز ظاهرة التضاد في عالمه الشعري، موضوع هذه الدراسة.
وقد جاءت الدراسة الحالية لتركّز الحديث حول ظاهرة التضاد في شعر أمل دنقل، حيث لم تكن هذه الظاهرة محور الدراسات النقدية السابقة، ولم تحظ بدراسة شاملة مستقلة، فقد انشغلت تلك الدراسات بمعالجة كثير من القضايا الفكرية والفنية في شعره.
وقد أطلعت على تلك الدراسات، وحاولت بإخلاص الإفادة منها جميعاً، وتوظيف ما يلزم منها بما يتناسب مع موضوع هذه الدراسة وخطتها العامة.
