يتناول هذا الكتاب الوجيز جوانب من سيرة علَم من أعلام الغرب الإسلامي، حافظِ المغرب، ومفتي فاس: أبي العباس المَقْري (ت 1041هـ)، صاحب كتاب، نفح الطيب في ذكر غصن الأندلس الرطيب ووزيرها لسان الدين ابن الخطيب.
الحافظ أحمد بن محمد المقري، هو أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد أحمد بن يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن أبي العيش بن محمد المقري. وقد خلف الإمام المقري وراءه ثروة هائلة من الكتب التي ألفها بتلمسان وفاس ومصر والحرمين والشام في الأدب والتاريخ والعقائد والفقه. من أشهر كتب المقري "نفح الطيب، من غصن الأندلس الرطيب، وذكر وزيرها لسان الدين بن الخطيب"، و"أزهار الرياض في أخبار عياض".
وقد دافع فيه مؤلفه العلامة الشيخ محمد عبد الحيّ الكتاني (ت 1382هـ)، عن الإمام أبي العباس المقري، وردّ الشُّبَه التي وجهّها إليه أحد الكتاب؛ فنفى القرشية عن نسبه، وطعن في ثقته وسعة علمه، وصلته ببعض شيوخه؛ سالكاً في نقده مسلكاً علمياً رصيناً؛ فعرض أقوال الكاتب، ثم ردها من غير تعسف؛ باسطاً بين يدي القارئ الأدلة الساطعة، والحجج الدامغة، من كتب التاريخ والتراجم والسير وغيرها.
