...ففي رواية عن الإرهاب و"الأجهزة السرية" طلب السينمائي الإسباني غونزلو سواريز من أحد أبطاله القول: "لا يستطيع أحد وقف الماكينة. لا يستطيع أحد إيقافها..". وأضاف معلقاً: "بكل تأكيد كان يلمح إلى وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية، فلا أحد يذكر، أنه سمع منه: الكلمة السحرية المؤلفة من الأحرف الأولى لاسم هذه المنظمة الشهيرة..".
وعلى هذا النحو فإن فرنسيس غاري باور، قائد طائرة التجسس "يو-2" التي أسقطت بصاروح فوق أراضي الاتحاد السوفياتي. وأثار سقوطها أزمة عالمية في أيار من سنة 1960... روى في كتابه كيفية تجنيده فقال: "خلال كل هذه الأحاديث، حصل مرات عديدة، في البداية على الأقل، أن ذكرت وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية بالاسم، وكل مرة كنت أرى كولين يشير إلي منبهاً. فهو بالذات، شأنه شأن الآخرين، كانوا عندما يلمحون إليها، يستخدمون غالباً كلمة "الحكومة" أو "الوكالة". ومن خيث لا أدري انتهيت إلى نفس العادة... ثم بدأ تدريبي...".
