هذا الكتاب يتألف من دراستين تدوران حول موضوع الفكر الجغرافي، الأولي عنوانها الإقليم والإقليمية في الفكر الجغرافي (المصدر رقم 1) ويعتبر مفهوم الإقليم Region أطول مفاهيم علم الجغرافيا بقاء وأكثرها جذباً لاهتمام الجغرافيين من غيره من المفاهيم الجغرافية الأخرى وفضلا عن كونه ملمح دائم من ملامح التراث الفكري الجغرافي فان هذا المصطلح كان أيضاً واحداً من أكثر الموضوعات الجغرافية إثارة للجدل والاختلاف وهو يتطلب الكثير جدا من المجازفة -إن لم تكن المخاطرة- إذا ما حاول الباحث أن يقيمه أو يستعرض تاريخه، لأن محاولة تتبع تاريخ الفكر الإقليمي والمنهجية الإقليمية هي عملياً وواقعياً أمر صعب يشبه في صعوبته عملية الإحاطة بتاريخ علم الجغرافيا برمته، والثانية بعنوان: نقاط التجديد في الفكر الجغرافي.
فقد كانت الفترة الحديثة من تاريخ علم الجغرافيا، والتي بدأت مع منتصف القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي وحتى اللآن هي الفترة التي شهدت تطورات وتغيرات تفوق في عددها وفي أهميتها وتأثيرها كل ما شهده العلم من هذه التطورات والتغيرات منذ نشأته وحتي بدايتها، وهي تطورات وتغيرات أدت إلى إحداث اتجاه جديد نحو التغير الفكري أو المنهجي في علم الجغرافيا، سواء أكان هذا الاتجاه يمثل تعميقا للفكر الجغرافي أو تعويقا له، وعلي هذا الأساس فقد تكون "نقطة التجديد" هذه معمقة للفكر الجغرافي نظرياً ومنهجيا أو قد تكون معوقة لمساره، مثبطة لتياره، ومقيدة لمرونة أفكاره.
