الدكتور مصطفى سويف هو أستاذ علم نفس مصري بكلية آداب جامعة القاهرة. له العديد من المؤلفات والدراسات في مجال علم النفس. شغل منصب رئيس الجمعية المصرية للدراسات النفسية عامي 1970 و1971، وهو مؤسس أكاديمية الفنون المصرية وأول رئيس لها بين عامي 1968 و1971.

يمثل الكتاب دراسة حديثة عن علم النفس في العصر الحديث ، ولا يقدم الكتاب المعلومات التقليدية المعروفة عن علم النفس ، كذلك يتميز الكتاب بتناول جوانب متعلقة بتطبيقات علم النفس في المجتمع المصري ، وينقسم الكتاب إلى بابين ؛ الأول يتناول فلسفة علم النفس وفيه تعريف المفاهيم في علم النفس ، ومشكلات علم النفس المعاصر. أما الباب الثاني فهو يتناول دور علم النفس في المجتمع المصري ،ويشتمل على الدراسات النفسية في مصر ومستقبلها ، وكذلك مستقبل علم النفس في مصر ، ثم يستعرض دور علم النفس في مصر عبر النصف قرن الماضي.
