تعد هذه الدراسة الواقعية على المجتمعات النامية العربية، إحدى الدراسات العلمية الجادة التى تندرج تحت أحد فروع على الإجتماع العام، وهو "علم الإجتماع البدوى"، والذى قام بتأسيسه ووضع أفكاره الأولى العلامة العربى " إبن خلدون"، وذلك فى مقدمته الشهيرة عندما درس مراحل التطور الإجتماعى وإنتقال المجتمعات الغربية من مرحلة البداوة إلى مرحلة التحضر والتقدم. كما حرصت الدراسات الحالية، على أن تعطى أهمية كبرى للتحليلات النطرية والموجهات الفكرية التى توجه هذا النوع من الدراسات للكشف عن طبيعة الحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والثقافية والحضارية، التى تعيشها بالفعل المجتمعات الصحراوية فى العالم العربى. وهذا بالإضافة، إى أن الدراسة ركزت على تحليل العديد من النماذج التنموية وسياسات التوطين فى المجتمعات البدوية، والتى غيرت بديلة للعمل والإنتاج، والتخطيط عموماً لحياة إجتماعية وثقافية متحضرة، تحتاج إلى المزيد من الدراسة والتحليل وخاصة من الناحية الواقعية.
أما عن محتويات الدراسة فكانت كالتالى: الفصل الأول (خصائص مجتمع الدراسة)، الفصل الثانى (مدخل لدراسة التوطين والتنمية)، الفصل الثالث (التوطين والتنمية فى الوطن العربى)، الفصل الرابع (التوطين والتنمية فى مجتمع شمال سيناء)، الفصل الخامس (الواقع التنموى بين منجزات التنظيم الرسمى).
