لعب اللواتية دوراً محورياً في الحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية في ولاية الخابورة خلال القرن الماضي (1900- 1970م)، حيث تعرّضت سلطنة عمان إلى كثير من التحدِّيات السياسية والإقتصادية.
الحروب القبلية الداخلية والتدخُّل البريطاني في الحياة السياسية العُمانية خلال فترة حكم السلطان تيمور بن فيصل وابنه السلطان سعيد بن تيمور والأزمة الإقتصادية التي اجتاحت العالم بعد الحربين الكونيتين (الحرب العالمية الأولى والثانية)، كل ذلك أثر تأثيراً مباشراً على الشعب العُماني بجميع أطيافه وتوجُّهاته.
تناولت الدراسة الدور الحضاري للواتية في ولاية الخابورة خلال الفترة من عام 1940 حتى 1970م، علماً بأنهم سكنوا الخابورة قبل عام 1889م حسبما تُفيد الوثائق الرسمية التي تمّ عرضها في هذا الكتاب.
تناول الكتاب في فصله الأول نبذه تاريخية عن أصل نسب قبيلة اللواتية الذي يعود إلى سامة بن لؤي بن غالب وقيام دولتهم "دولة بني سامة" في كل من عُمان والملتان بالهند.
في حين يتناول الفصل الثاني من الكتاب الدور البريطاني في الحياة السياسية العُمانية في عهد كل من السلطان تيمور بن فيصل والسلطان سعيد بن تيمور وأهم الأحداث السياسية والثورات القبلية التي أثّرت تأثيراً مباشراً على الحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية للعُمانيين في تلك الفترة.
تعرض الفصل الثالث من الكتاب للوضع الإقتصادي والإجتماعي لولاية الخابورة ودور التجار اللواتية في إنعاش الحركة الإقتصادية والإجتماعية من خلال أعمالهم التجارية بين الخابورة ومطرح، وكذلك وصولهم إلى دول الخليج العربية والهند وشرق أفريقيا.
