ما نحاول تقديمه في هذا الكتاب هو منهجية واضحة ودقيقة لتحليل البيانات التشخيصية التي يتم جمعها أثناء دراسة الحالة التقويمية. وترتكز في الأساس على المنهجية المتبعة في أغلب الاختصاصات الطبية، والتي تتم على ثلاث مراحل (أو مستويات) تبدأ بتشخيص الأعراض ثم التشخيص الإيجابي ثم التشخيص السببي. إلا أن تطبيقها في اختصاص تقويم الأسنان وبالطريقة التي نطرحها يعتبر طرحا لمنهجية جديدة إلى حد ما، علماً أننا لم نُغير في طرق دراسة عناصر الحالة أو في مسبباتها، بل قمنا بإعادة توزيع العناصر المستخدمة حالياً في دراسة الحالة التقويمية على مستويات دراسة الحالة الثلاث، مع تغيير وإضافة مسميات بعض العناصر بما يتناسب مع المنهجية التي نقترحها هنا.
