د محمدالتونجي دكتور في اللغة العربية وكاتب ولد في مدينة حلب عام 1933 وتلقى تعليمه فيها وتخرج من جامعة دمشق حاملا الإجازة في اللغة العربية ودبلوم التربية ونال الدكتوراه في الادب الفارسي من طهران وأخرى من الجامعة اليسوعية وعمل مدرسا ووكيلا لكلية الاداب ونال العديد من الجوائز من مختلف الدول وله مؤلفات كثيرة.وهو يدرس اليوم بجامعة الشهباء الخاصة بحلب مادة أخلاقيات المهنة .

القيان والجواري، طبقة اجتماعية استقدمت إلى المجتمع العربي، بالشراء والتملك، إما للغناء في مجالس اللهو والطرب، ومجالس الخلفاء والأمراء والسلاطين، وإما للخدمة في البيوت.
وقد لعبت القيان والجواري دوراً مهماً جداً في التاريخ العربي والإسلامي، لما كان لهن، بفعل جمالهن وفتنتهن، من تأثير كبير على أسيادهن، حتى لقد وصل هذا التأثير مبلغاً استطاعت معه القينة أو الجارية أن تشارك في أمور الدولة فتأمر وتنهي فتسمع وتطاع.
وقد جمع هذا الكتاب طائفة كبيرة من أخبار القيان والجواري عبر فترات تاريخية عديدة تبدأ بالعصر الجاهلي انتهاءً بالأندلس، مروراً بالأموي والعباسي.
دون أن ينسى جامع هذا الكتاب أن يختم الكتاب بقصة طريفة عن عبد الحميد وصافيناز، الأمر الذي يجهله كثير من القراء والمطالعين.
إنها سياحة ممتعة نتعرف خلالها إلى كثير من مظاهر الحياة العربية عبر مختلف العصور.
