من الاضطرابات التي يكثر ظهورها بين أطفال المرحلة الابتدائية وتعوق اكتسابهم للأساليب السلوكية التي تمكنهم من التوافق مع الآخرين وإكسابهم للمقررات الدراسية اضطراب العناد المتحدي، الذي أوضحه الدليل التشخيصي والإحصائي الرابع المعدل للاضطرابات النفسية، تحت فئة السلوك الفوضوي الذي قد ظهر في مرحلة الطفولة لدى الأطفال، وتتصف مظاهر هذا الاضطراب لدى الاطفال بثورات الغضب وفقدان الأعصاب ورفض تعليمات الكبار، كما أنه يسبب مشكلات للطفل مع أفراد الأسرة والأصدقاء والرفاق والتحصيل الأكاديمي في المدرسة، وقد ينتج في حالة عدم التدخل لعلاج اضطراب العناد المتحدي تطور هذا الاضطراب عند الطفل إلى التدخين والشرب المبكر للخمور والإدمان واضطراب المسلك، لهذا يعد الأطفال ذو اضطراب العناد المتحدي بمثابة تحد خطير للآباء ومشكلة اجتماعية خطيرة، لذا بات من الضروري أن يكون هناك اتجاه علاجي شامل عند العمل مع هؤلاء الأطفال وان يتضمن العلاج الطفل والأبوان والمدرسة والإقران والمجتمع المحلي في بعض الأحيان، لذلك كان من الضروري أن يتوجه الباحثون إلى دراسته والوقوف على مكونات والظروف التي يحدث في ظلها كمحاولة لتجنبه أو تقليص امكانية حدوثه، وعليه.. فإن هذا الكتاب هو جهد علمي متواضع يضاف إلى جهود باحثين اخرين أدلوا بدلوهم في هذا المجال، وتأمل منه المعدة أن يسد ثغرة، ويكون اضافة مهنية تغني المكتبة العربية، ويكون عونًا لكل مرب ومعلم واخصائي اجتماعي ونفسي وهم ينهضون بمهمة تربية ابنائهم من النشء الجديد.
