هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات والمقالات كتبتها المؤلفة في مرحلة زمنية تمتد أكثر من عقد من الزمن، وموضوعها المشترك هو الموسيقى العربية بصورة عامة والعراقية بصورة خاصة، وقد قسم ثلاثة أقسام:
الأول: الدراسات الخاصة في موضوع علم الصوت ونظريات الموسيقى، الثاني: الدراسات الأثنوموزيكولوجية والاجتماعية، الثالث: مجموعة من المقالات التي تتضمن النقد وعرض الكتب والمقالات.
وتتحدث المؤلفة بإسهاب عن طرق التدوين الموسيقي ومفهوم التركيب السلمي والتحليل الذبذبي لنماذج من الألحان الشعبية العراقية. ثم تنتقل لتتحدث عن آلات الموسيقى التقليدية في العراق المعاصر. كما تتحدث عن الموسيقى العربية في أوروبا وفي المجتمع المصري، وعن التراث والتربية الموسيقية. والكلام عن الموسيقى قد لا ينتهي، لكن المهم في ما يكتب عنها أن يكون ملذاً ومفيداً وهذا ما ستلمسه لدى قراءة هذا الكتاب.
