تحت عنوان "نثر الأزهار: فيما وجد مكتوباً على القبور من الحكم والأشعار" يجمع الأستاذ عبد الرحمن يوسف الفرحان ما جاء متفرقاً في بطون الكتب وما رواه الأوائل فيما كتب على القبور، وما قاله بعض الزهاد من أبلغ العظات في النظر إلى مجلَة الأموات.
والكتاب في مضمونه يذكر فوائد تتعلق بالموت والإستعداد له وما نهي عنه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في حكم الكتابة على القبور من تحريم مع الإشارة إلى الأحاديث الواردة في ذلك، أيضاً يتضمن الكتاب ما كان الأقدمون ينقشون على نواويسهم من صور مواكب الحنازة والمعارك والإنتصارات والصيد ونحو ذلك، لذلك سنقرأ في هذا الكتاب ما كتب على قيود الملوك، وما أوصى به قادة المعارك في الكتابة على قبورهم، وماذا كتب المسلمون، والنصارى، واليهود، والشعراء، والحكماء، وغيرهم من الناس العاديين. أما أهم ما جاء في الكتاب هو "أحكام المقابر" ذلك أن الكتابة على القبر محرمة، ويشتد التحريم إذا كان المكتوب على القبر آيات القرآن أو أسماء الله تعالى... ذلك "أن كتابة القرآن أو غيره مما هو محترم على القبر تعريض للدوس عليه، والنجاسة والتلويث بصديد الموتى عند تكرار النبش في المقبرة المسلية؛ ولهذا صرح بعض الفقهاء بتحريم كتابة القرآن على القبر لأجل ذلك. وكذا إذا كان المكتوب قصائد المدح والثناء أو الرثاء، أو ذكر شيء من المفاخر والمآثر سواء كان الأموات صالحين أو غيرهم...".
محتويات الكتاب: يضم الكتاب عشرة فصول جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- حكم الكتابة على القبور، 2- القبريات النثرية، 3- قبريات العجم، 4- الأمثال في القبوريات، 5- كتابة الحجارة، 6- كتابة الكفن، 7- من وجدت رقعة كتابة عند موته، 8- ما نظمه الشعراء واستحسنه الأدباء من قصائد تكتب على القبر، 9- القبريات الشعرية مرتبة على حروف المعجم، 10- الكلمات التي قيلت على قبر الإسكندر.
