لو لم يكن للإمام الأرموي من المؤلفات إلا كتاب الحاصل، ذلك فخراً، فهو من الكتب التي سار ذكرها وتناولها الناس بالتدارس. وهو من كتب الأصول المهمة التي اشتملت على كل ما يحتاج إليه الدارس لعلم الأصول، من أبحاث ومسائل أصولية. وقد رتّبه مؤلفه تاج الدين الأرموي على النحو التالي: الكلام في المقدمات، الكلام في اللغات، الكلام في الأوامر والنواهي، الكلام في العموم والخصوص، الكلام في الأفعال، الكلام في الناسخ والمنسوخ، الكلام في الإجماع.
وقد جاء الكتاب محققاً ضمن قسمين: قسم دراسي، وقسم تحقيقي. القسم الدراسي يتكون من مقدمة وثلاثة أبواب وخاتمة. تحدث الباحث في المقدمة على عصر تاج الدين الأرموي (القرن السابع الهجري) من الناحية السياسية والاجتماعية والعلمية. وأما الباب الأول فقد تناول التعريف بالأرموي، والكلام عن حياته العلمية. وأفرد الباب الثاني للكلام عن شيوخ الأرموي وأقرانه وتلاميذه وأصحابه وتاريخ وفاته. وأما الباب الثالث فقد تمّ التعرض فيه لآثار الأرموي ومؤلفاته وتمّ في الخاتمة ذكر طائفة من المسائل الأصولية المهمة التي اختار فيها الإمام الأرموي بعض الآراء الأصولية التي خالف فيها أستاذه الإمام فخر الدين الرازي، صاحب المحصول، ومن أتى بعده: كالقاضي البيضاوي، صاحب "المنهاج" وقارن الباحث ذلك بآراء غيرهم من أئمة الأصول.
وأما القسم التحقيقي فقد كان عبارة عن تصحيح نص كتاب "الحاصل" وتحقيقه، وإبرازه في شكل منسق تنسيقاً يعين على فهم معانيه، ويمتع قارئه ويجدد أهدافه ومراميه، مع تخريج ما فيه من شواهد، وربطها بالكتب التي وردت فيها. ثم التعريف بمن ذكر فيه من الأعلام والطوائف والأماكن، وربط مسائله العلمية بالكتب الأصولية والفقهية، وشرح ما تضمنه من ألفاظ غريبة أو مشكلة، ووضع فهارس للمصادر والمراجع التي كان الاعتماد عليها في الدراسة والتحقيق، وفهارس تفصيلية للموضوعات الواردة في القسمين الدراسي والتحقيقي.
