في كتابه هذا يتحدث الدكتور خالد بن مرغوب بن محمد أمين عن "مكانة الإجازة عند المحدثين بين الإفراط والتفريط الحاصلين فيها من بعض المعاصرين" العنوان الذي اختاره المؤلف للبحث في أهمية الإجازة والجواب على عدم اعتبار البعض بها وزهدهم فيها.
وبناءً عليه، يهدف الكتاب من دراسة موضوع الإجازات إلى معرفة الصواب المقرر عند الأئمة المحدثين في هذا الباب، والإشارة إلى الإعتدال فيه عسى أن ينتهجه طلبة العلم النبوي الشريف، وخاصة فيما رأى المؤلف أثناء دراسته لهذا الباب أن منهم من فرّط في الإسناد والرواية عن الشيوخ واكتفى بالمطالعة وحصل خيراً كثيراً، لكن ربما فاتته في بعض الأحيان فوائد التلقي، ومنهم من أفرط في العناية بالرواية ولو لم يُحصّل شيئاً من الفوائد المرجوة من الأخذ عن الشيوخ، بل صارت أحياناً أقرب إلى المظاهر والدعاوى والإستكثار من أسماء الشيوخ والمجيزين.
يبدأ الكتاب بنبذة موجزة في التعريف بالحديث الشريف، ويتابع في طرق تلقي الحديث ونقله وتعريف الإجازة وأنواعها، وبيان عبارات الأداء وسن التحمل والأداء، مروراً بأهمية الجمع بين الرواية والدراية، ويختتم بتعريف العلماء لقيمة الإجازة والإعتدال في مكانتها واشتراطاتها ...
