كان ذلك منذ زمن بعيد، أيام كان كل شيء يتكلم، كما تقول الجدات. وجدتنا التي تروي لنا الحكايات، قالت عن "الفاختة" التي تنوح دائماً: "مسكينة إنها تنوح، وستظل تنوح إلى آخر الدهر". كنا "نلتم" جماعة صغيرة من صبية وصبايا، حول الموقد في ليالي الشتاء الباردات، أو تحت نور القمر في ليالي الصيف المقمرات سأل صبي: لماذا تنوح الفاختةُ؟ وسألت صبية: هل أضاعت عزيزاً؟ وكانت الأسئلة تنهمر من الجميع، غير أن جدتنا، وبهدوء عظيم أشارت علينا بالسكوت ثم مضت تحكي لنا حكاية حنين الفاختة إلى ابنتها الصغيرة التي فقدتها في لحظة طيش. وهذه القصة ستروي للقارئ الصغير الحكاية نفسها التي روتها لنا جدتي حينما كنا صغار.
