كانت مراسم الزواج الذي تم في كنيسة سانت جورج في ساحة هانوفر هادئة جداً. انتقلت الحفلة بعد ذلك إلى منزل السيد ألويزيوس حيث تم تحضير الإفطار. يبدو أنه تم افتعال مشكلة صغيرة بسبب سيدة لم يتم تأكيد اسمها، والتي حاولت شق طريقها إلى المنزل بعد حفلة الزفاف، مدعية أن لديها مزاعم بحق اللورد سانت سايمون. إلا أن رئيس الخدم والخادم تمكنا من إخراجها ولكن بعد مشهد طويل مؤلم، أما العروس، التي دخلت، لحسن الحظ، إلى المنزل قبل هذه المقاطعة المزعجة، فقد جلست على الإفطار مع البقية، ثم شكت توعكاً وانسحبت إلى غرفتها. ثم لحقها والدها عندما أثار غيابها الطويل بعض التعليقات، ولكنه علم من وصيفتها أنها دخلت غرفتها للحظة فقط، أخذت معطفاً وقبعة وأسرعت إلى الأسفل نحو الممر. صرّح أحد الخدم أنه رأى سيدة تغادر المنزل بملابس كهذه، ولكنه رفض أن يصدّق أنها سيدته، لاعتقاده أنها برفقة الضيوف. لدى التحقق من اختفاء ابنته، قام السيد ألويزيوس دوران، بالتعاون مع العريس، بالتحدث مع الشرطة مباشرة. تحقيقات نشيطة جداً تجري الآن، مما سيؤدي ربما إلى توضيح سريع لهذه الحادثة الفريدة. من ناحية أخرى، حتى وقت متأخر من ليلة أمس، لم يتم معرفة مكان السيدة المفقودة. فما الدافع الحقيقي وراء هذا الاختفاء المروِّع وما سر السيدة التي افتعلت المشكلة وهل لها علاقة بالاختفاء..
