تركز هذه الدراسة على مدة زمنية محددة، امتدت بين عامي 1945 و1991، بوصف العام 1945 يمثل انتهاء الحرب العالمية الثانية ودخول منطقة الخليج العربي مرحلة تاريخية جديدة، تميزت بحدوث تحولات في مختلف نواحي الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية، وتأثير ذلك في الواقع الفكري للمنطقة، مما ساعد على ظهور حركات وتنظيمات إسلامية على مستوى المنطقة. في حين يمثل عام 1991، اندلاع حرب الخليج الثانية، على أثر الاجتياح العراقي للكويت في 2 آب 1990، حيث شكلت هذه الحرب وتداعياتها منعطفاً هاماً في تاريخ التيار الإسلامي الخليجي، وأعادت تشكيل مواقف ذلك التيار من مختلف القضايا.
