يلامس موضوع الإستيطان الصهيوني الحياة العامة للفلسطينيين بكافة جوانبها: الإقتصادية، والسياسية، والإجتماعية، كما أنه يتعلق بالفكر الصهيوني الذي يقود المشروع الإستيطاني في الضفة الغربية. هذا الفكر المتطرف الذي يحث "اليهود" على الإستيطان في الضفة الغربية كونها جزءاً من الأرض التي منحها الرب لبني إسرائيل، وبالتالي عليهم الإستيطان فيها وطرد الغرباء منها. ولسنا نبالغ إذا ما قلنا بأن الإستيطان في فلسطين منذ نشوء الحركة السهيونية في القرن التاسع عشر هو الوجه الحقيقي لها. فكافة المستوطنات المقامة على أرض فلسطين هي في حقيقتها مقامة على أراضٍ فلسطينية لها مالكوها قبل أن تستهدفها الحركة الصهيونية قبل ما يسمى بالدولة الإسرائيلية، ثم أكملتها الحكومات الإسرائيلية عبر سنوات الإحتلال.
فمنذ احتلال لفلسطين عام 1948، عمدت "إسرائيل" إلى إرغام الفلسطينيين على مغادرة أراضيهم، مستخدمة القوة، وذلك بهدف تهجيرهم من أرضهم وتطهيرها عرقياً. لذلك، أعطيت الصلاحيات لضباط الجيش لاستخدام أقصى قوة ممكنة من أجل تحقيق ذلك الهدف. وبعد عدوان حزيران عام 1967م، بدا واضحاً للحكومات الإسرائيلية أن تكرار تهجير الفلسطينيين كما حدث عام 1948 لم يعد ممكناً: ويعود ذلك لوعي الفلسطينيين وتمسكهم بأرضهم، ولاختلاف الظروف الموضوعية عن تلك التي كانت عليه آنذاك.
تأتي هذه الدراسة لتحديد الأهداف الكامنة وراء الهجمة الإستيطانية الصهيونية في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة، وبيان تأثيرها على إمكانية إيجاد قاسم مشترك مع الإحتلال أو نقطة وسيط يمكن التوافق عليها معه؛ خاصة أن التجربة أثبتت التنكر الإسرائيلي المستمر للعهود والمواثيق، ولتؤكد واقعية خيار المقاومة في مواجهة الإحتلال، كخيار قادر على ردع هذا الإحتلال ودفعه للتراجع والهزيمة أمام مقاومة لا تعرف التراجع والمساومة على الحقوق والمقدسات.
