اهتم علماء المسلمين قديماً وحديثاً بالجمع، والتصنيف، والعرض لسيرة سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم العطرة، وما ذلك إلا لأن الله ـ تعالى ـ أمر عباده المؤمنين بمحبته وتوقيره، واتباع سنته، وطاعته؛ مما يدفع بالمسلم ليعيش مع كل لحظة من لحظات حياة هذا النبي العظيم صلى الله عليه وسلم ، يتعرف فيها على أحواله، وصفاته الخَلْقية، والخُلْقية. ولقد وُجِد ـ من بين مئات الكتب في هذا الشأن ـ كتابٌ للمؤلف يسمى: ((عيون الأثر في فنون المغازي والشمائل والسير))، وهو كتاب ممتع في بابه، يغني عما سواه قاصدي هذا العلم وطلابَه، وقد لخَّصه مؤلفه في هذا الكتيِّب، فجمع ما قَرُبَ مأخذُه ونقلُه، وسَهُل تناوُله وحملُه ليكون للمبتدي تبصرة، وللمنتهي تذكرة. غير أنه زاد عليه نبذة مختصرة عن مناقب سادتنا أبي بكر الصديق، وعمر بن الخطاب، وعثمان بن عفان، وعلي بن أبي طالب ، والحسن والحسين ابني علي بن أبي طالب ـ رضي الله عنهم أجمعين ـ. وقد قام المحقق بالعناية بالكتاب حيث قابله على نسختين خطيتين، وترجم لمؤلفه، وضبط نصه، ووضع العناوين لموضوعاته، ووثَّق ما جاء فيه من المصادر المعتمدة لدى أهل العلم، وختم عمله بفهرس لموضوعات الكتاب تتميماً للفائدة المرجوة منه. ينصح به: كل محبٍّ لسيد البشر سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم ، وخلفائه الراشدين، وريحانتيه الحسن والحسين ليقف على أحوالهم، وأخلاقهم الكريمة فينهل منها.
