ينتقد ويليام إيسترلي، دون أن يدعي امتلاكه لكل الأجوبة، موقف الغرب المزهو بنفسه والذي يحاول فرض الحلول من برجه العاجي. ويدعو في هذا الكتاب، الذي يقدم وجهة نظر غاضبة ومؤثرة ولكنها دائماً صارمة، كل منا لتحمل المسؤولية، سواء المانحين، أو عمل الإغاثة أو المواطنين العاديين حتى تصل المزيد من المساعدات إلى الناس الذين يحتاجونها فعلاً، وإلى الأم التي لا تستطيع إطعام أطفالها، وإلى الفتاة الصغيرة التي تجمع الحطب بدلاً من الذهاب إلى المدرسة، وإلى الأب الذي لا يستطيع العمل لأن الحرب أقعدته.
