جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

"أصول فلسفة الحق" أو "موجز لعلم السياسة والقانون الدولي"، الذي نقدم الان المجلد الأول منه، هو آخر كتاب أصدره هيجل في حياته، وقد كان مثاراً للسجال وللجدل وللهجوم العنيف أيضاً حتى أن كارل بوبر وصف هيجل - بسبب من هذا الكتاب - بأنه يستهدف "خدمة سيده ملك بروسيا".
غير أن اهمية هذا النص لا ترجع فقط إلى أنه الكلمة الأخيرة للفيلسوف حيث كثّف فيه نظرته إلى المجتمع والتاريخ والسياسة، ولا إلى أن ماركس قد ولد كمفكرٍ في سياق سجاله أو نقده لهذا النص، وإنما إلى الموضوع الذي يعالجه وهو "التحليل الفلسفي للمجتمع"، أي التحليل الفلسفي أو العقلي لمؤسسات المجتمع: الأسرة، المجتمع المدني والدولة.
يقول هيجل في ختام مدخله لهذا الكتاب: "إن بومة مينرفا Minerva لا تبدأ في الطيران إلاّ بعد أن يرخي الليل سدوله"، وهذا الكتاب هو تصديق لما ذهب إليه هيجل، فقد جاء عقب أحداث وتحولات تاريخية جذرية: إنتصار الثورة الفرنسية، سقوط الباستيل، إجتياح نابليون لأوروبا، وقبل كل شيء، ولادة المجتمع المدني الحديث بصراعاته وتناقضاته وظهور الدولة الحديثة بسطوتها وهيمنتها، وبدايات الصراع بين المجتمع المدني والدولة الذي ما تزال نشهد إمتداداته في المجتمع الإنساني المعاصر.
