يهدف هذا البحث إلى إلقاء الضوء على سيرة الحاج محمد أمين الحسيني، ونشاطه في الفترة الواقعة ما بين عام 1921- 1937م، بصفته ممثلاً لأعلى مرتبة دينيّة في فلسطين، وهي مرتبة المفتي الأكبر؛ وكانت هذه الفترة الزمنية مثقلة بالأحداث التي مرت بها فلسطين زمن الإنتداب البريطاني.
وعلى الباحث في هذه الفترة أن يعرف مفتاح مشكلة قضية فلسطين، وهو "وعد بلفور" الذي أعلنه وزير الخارجية البريطانية، اللورد بلفور، في تشرين ثاني عام 1917م، في رسالة موجهة إلى اللورد روتشيلد.
وإن الدارس لهذه الفترة الزمنية 1921- 1937م من حياة الحاج أمين الحسيني يجد أن المفتي لعب أكثر من غيره من الفلسطينيين دوراً سياسياً، ودينياً، في تاريخ فلسطين في هذه الحقبة من الزمن، وقد كتب الباحثون عن هذا القائد الوطني الفلسطيني، فمنهم من كتب ضده، وهم اليهود، ومنهم من انصفه وهم من العرب.
