إن الحلال والحرام يكتنف كل شيء من معاملات المجتمع، وكل تصرف له طرفان أحدهما أعلى درجات المحافظة، والآخر أبعد مسافات التطرف، ثم واسطة بينهما تجمع درجات المحافظة، والآخر أبعد مسافات التطرف، ثم واسطة بينها تجمع درجات كثيرة للمحافظة، أو للتطرف، ومفهوم الجنس من ضمن هذه التصرفات التي تنطوي على أشياء مباحة، وأخرى غير مباحة، وتصورات نافعة وأخرى ضارة. فكان هذا الكتاب الذي كانت غاية المؤلف من إخراجه محاولة توضيح النافع، والضار من التصورات، والممارسات المرتبطة بالجنس، وتصحيح المفاهيم الخاطئة.
هذا الكتاب هو نسخة من مخطوطة قديمة يعود تاريخها إلى القرن الثالث عشر الميلادي كتبها الفيلسوف والعالم علي بن عمر بن علي الكاتب القزويني الذي ترك عدة مؤلفات كان أبرزها في علم المنطق وفي العلوم الفلسفية ولا سيما المناقشات التي كانت سائدة حول أفكار المعتزلة.
وكتاب جوامع اللذة كما يشير إليه اسمه هو حصيلة الثقافة الجنسية في تلك المرحلة والتي يكشف فيها المؤلف عن إلمام واسع بالجنس وقواعده وأصوله وأدبه.
كتاب ظريف من روائع التراث الجنسي عند العرب، بقي مكبوتاً لأجيال قبل أن يتم تحقيقه ونشره بعد سبعة قرون كاملة.
