يعد الإمام محمد بن الحسين أبو بكر الآجري البغدادي، توفي سنة (360ه) من أهم علماء الفقه في النصف الثاني من القرن الرابع الهجري، وقد اتفق العلماء على سعة علمه وحفظه وإتقانه، فهو من العلماء البارزين الذين تركوا للأمة ثروة علمية في العلوم الشرعية، ولأنه كذلك يضع الدكتور قيس الخفاجي دراسته هذه حول هذه الشخصية العلمية الفريدة جامعاً مسائله الفقهية وجميع ما ورد عنه وما توافق من مسائله مع بقية المذاهب وما خالف فيها علماء عصره.
وفي هذا المجال تحدث المؤلف في الفصل الأول عن (حياة الإمام) وكانت على محورين: المحور الأول (حياته الشخصية: إسمه، صفاته ..) والمحور الثاني: (حياته العلمية، شيوخه، مذهبه، مؤلفاته ...) بالإضافة إلى دراسة آرائه الفقهية وطرق الإستدلال والمصادر التي اعتمد عليها الآجري في ذلك. وفي الفصل الثاني جمع المؤلف مسائل الآجري الفقهية ووزعها على أبواب الفقه وتضمنت مبحثان: الأول في (العبادات) والثاني في (المعاملات). وأما عن طريقة المؤلف في تدوين (المسائل الفقهية) فهو يبدأ برأي الإمام أبي بكر الآجري جاعلاً رأيه ومن وافقه من الفقهاء هو رأي المذهب الأول، ثم المذهب الثاني، ثم المذهب الثالث ... الخ. ثم ذكر أدلة كل مذهب. وقد سلك مسلك الترجيح في نهاية كل مسألة، معتمداً على قوة الأدلة تارة، ومراعياً ما فيه من التيسير على العبادة تارة أخرى. وختم بأهم النتائج التي توصل إليها.
