إن كتاب سيبوية هو أول كتاب نحوي كامل يظهر للناس، فقد ضمنه مؤلفه سيبوية قوانين لغة العرب التي استقاها من لغتهم، ومثلما حظى الكتاب بإجاب العلماء وثنائهم فقد أثار حفيظة علماء آخرين، شكوا فيه، وراحوا يلفقون له أنوع التهم وقد جمع "المبرد" تعليقات أخرى رآها هو عليه، ورتبها في كتاب سماه (مسائل الغلط)، ولقد أحدث كتاب المبرد هذا حركة علمية واسعة في صفوف النحويين، فانتصر لسيبوية كثير منهم، وردوا على المبرد ولم يصل إلينا من الكتب التى اقتصر فيها مؤلفوها على الانتصار لسيبوية والرد على مغلطية غير كتاب (الانتصار لسيبوية على المبرد) الذي ألفه أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد بن ولاد النحوي، والذي رد فيه على المبرد في كتابه (مسائل الغلط)، ولقد تضمن كتاب (الانتصار) ثلاثا وثلاثين ومئة مسألة، وهى ليست كلها في رد المبرد على سيبوية، ففيه مسائل غلط فيها المبرد نحويين آخرين خالفوا سيبوية، كالأخفش، لكنه لم يتضمن جميع المسائل التى غلط فيها المبرد سيبوية، لأن هناك مسائل أخرى ذكرها المبرد في آثاره الأخرى ولم ترد في (الانتصار).
