جرير بن عطية الكلبي اليربوعي التميمي (33 هـ - 110 هـ/ 653 - 728 م) شاعر من بني كليب بن يربوع من قبيلة بني تميم وهي قبيلة في نجد، ولد في بادية نجد من أشهر شعراء العرب في فن الهجاء وكان بارعًا في المدح أيضًا.
كان جرير أشعر أهل عصره، ولد ومات في نجد، وعاش عمره كله يناضل شعراء زمنه ويساجلهم فلم يثبت أمامه غير الفرزدق والأخطل.
كان عفيفاً، وهو من أغزل الناس شعراً.
بدأ حياتة الشعرية بنقائض ضد شعراء محليين ثم تحول إلى الفرزدق "ولج الهجاء بينهما نحوا من أربعين سنة" و إن شمل بهجائة أغلب شعراء زمانة مدح بني أمية ولازم الحجاج زهاء العشرين سنة ووصلت أخباره و أشعاره الأفاق وهو لايزال حيا ، و أشتغلت مصنفات النقد و الأدب به و أقترن ذكرة بالفرزدق و الأخطل .
