هذه رسالة من رسائل ابن العماد الأقفهسي الماتعة، تطبع لأول مرة، تتحدث عن الفرق بين الحياة المستقرة والحياة المستمرة للحيوان على مذاهب الأئمة الأربعة "رضي الله عنهم أجمعين"، يبين فيها المصنف حكم الحيوان الذي أدركت زكاته وقد أشرف على الموت، متى يعتد بهذه الذكاء ومتى لا يعتد؟
وقد شبهها النووي في "المجموع" و"الروضة" بعلامات الخجل والغضب ونحوهما، وذكر لها أمارات كثيرة منها الحركة الشديدة بعد قطع الحلقوم والمريء، وانفجار الدم وتدفقه، وبعضهم اكتفى بالحركة الشديدة، وصححه النووي.
