تقع مدينة كوم أمبو على مسافة 45 كيلو متر شمال مدينة أسوان وبنحو 165 كيلو متر جنوب مدينة الأقصر في صعيد مصر. وتشرف تلك المدينة على موقع متميز يفصل بين طريقان رئسيان الأول الذى يمر عبر الرب باتجاه واحة " كر كور" حتى النوبة ، والثانى من منطقة "دراو" إلى الصحراء الشرقية. وقد اكتشبت تلك المدينة اهمية خاصة منذ عصور ما قبل التاريخ، واستمرت تلك الهمية في عصور الدولة القديمة وما تلاها حيث عثرت الحملة الفرنسية على العديد من البقايا الأثرية في المدينة تؤرخ بعصر الدول الحديثة.
