الأغنية الوطنية تأريخ للأحداث لسياسية التى مرت بها مصر وأثرت وتأثرت بالمتغيرات السياسية والاجتماعية وكانت ولا زالت لها دور كبير فى تعبئة الشعور الوطنى والقومى فى جميع المتغيرات والأحداث السياسية واستطاعت تجسيد الواقع المصرى منذ بدايات لقرن العشرين وحتى نهايته فى صياغة لحنية عذبة وكلمات هادفة وهما انعكاس صادق لما واجهته البلاد من أحداث ومتغيرات سياسية كما لعبت الأغنية دورًا هامًا فى شحذ الهمم والعزائم وبث روح الأمل وتأصيل حب الوطن وتربية وتنمية الروح الوطنية فى مختلف الأجيال كما كانت رسالة تحذرية تردع المحتل الغادر حين يستهين بالقوانين أو المواثيق الدولية وتاريخ مصر الحديثة حافل بالمتغيرات السياسية التى أدت أثراء وتطور الأغنية الوطنية فى شكلها ومضمونها وترجع أهميتها لتأثيرها على مجريات الأحداث فى السلم والحرب سواء فى مصر أو خارجها كما أنها مصدرًا قويًا وملهمًا للمناضلين من أجل التحرير والاستقلال من الاحتلال والاستعمار كما أن نجاح الثورات والحركات السياسية فى مصر كان مرتبط بعدد الأغانى الوطنية التى تؤزراها وتؤيدها حيث يعود نجاح ثورة 1919 وثورة 1952 لانتشار الأغنية الوطنية واذاعتها بشكل دائم ومستمر على الشعب المصرى فكانت الأغنية تأريخ لجميع الأحداث والمتغيرات التى مرت بها مصر فى النصف الثانى من القرن العشرين.
