هكذا كان فنان الشعب بيرم التونسي.. ثائرًا بمعنى الكلمة... ثائرًا اجتماعيًا يعمل على هدم العادات والتقاليد البالية.. وثائرًا سياسيا يحاول إيقاظ الناس والتصدى لسيئات وسوءات النظام الفاسد.. ونادى بالحرية فى صرخات مدوية أشبه بتلك الصرخات التى أطلقها فولتير ومونتسكيو وجان جاك روسو من أجل تحرير فرنسا من تسلط طبقة النبلاء.. وقد آمن التونسى بأن الفن أداة للتغيير والتحرر، وأن الفن الذى لا يهدف إلى تحرير الإنسان فن زائف.. والأدب الذى لا يسمو بالإنسان أدب رخيص.. وقد تحمل من أجل الكلمة الشجاعة الشريفة مرارة الجوع والتشرد والنفى.. لدرجة حرمانه من بيته وأولاده ووطنه ما يقرب من العشرين عامًا.. ورغم هذا ظل صامدًا ومعبّرًا فى كل أعماله عن وجدًان الشعب وضمير الأمة.. وكان نموذجًا للشخصية المصرية الصلبة.
