هذا هو المجلد الثانى من كتاب لا يكاد يوجد فى اللغة الأسبانية كتاب آخر يوازيه فى سعته وشموله وغزارة مادته.
يتناول المجلد الأول الفكر الإسلامى منذ بدايته حتى القرن الثانى عشر الميلادى، يتنال المجلد الثانى الفكر الأندلسى فى الفترة الواقعة ما بين القرنين التاسع والرابع عشر الميلاديين. أما المجلد الثالث فيدرس الفكر الإسلامى بصورة عامة من القرن الثالث عشرالميلادى حتى عصرنا الحاضر.
فى المجلد الثانى - الذى بين أيدينا - يدرس المؤلف الفكر الإسلامى واليهودى، ثم يدرس التصوف عند أعلامه الكبار كأبن مسرة، وابن العريف، وابن عربين وابن سبعين، والشاذلى.
وكان المؤلف حريصاً على أن تأتى أفكاره معبرة - على أفضل نحو - عن الموضوعات التى تناولها، مع كثرتها وتنوعها، ولهذا كان حريصاً على إعادة صياغتها أحياناً، واستدراك ما نقص منها أحياناً أخرى.
