النظام السياسي : تقليديا هو نظام الحكم بمعنى المؤسسات الحكومية التشريعية والتنفيذية والقضائية كما بينها دستور الدولة مكتوبا كان أم عرفيا. إلا أنه مع التطور الضخم في علم السياسة بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية ، تحت تأثير المدرسة السلوكية أصبح يعرف النظام السياسي في اطار المدرسة السلوكية بأنه مجموع التفاعلات والادوار المتداخلة والمتشابكة التي تتعلق بالتخصيص السلطوي للقيم ، أي تتعلق بتوزيع الاشياء ذات القيمة الموجبة قرارات سياسية ملزمة للجميع وهذا التعريف لدى ديفيد استون أما روبرت دول : هي التي تتضمن الاستخدام الفعلي أو التهديد بالاجبار المادي المشروع في سبيل تحقيق تكامل وتكيف المجتمع حول القوة والسلطة والحكم. ان النظام الاجتماعي في نظر البنائيون هو جزء من النظام الاجتماعي العام (نظام سياسي ، نظام اقتصادي ، نظام ثقافي ، نظام اجتماعي) فكل نظام يؤثر في الآخر.
