تبدو اليوم الحاجة ماسة للبحث في الحديث وعلوم ليطلع هذا الجيل على علم غني المعارف، عظيم الأهداف، وليعرف هذا النشئ سيرة رجاله الذين بذلوا كل ما لديهم من مال وحال في سبيل حفظ الحديث والاجتهاد فيه في زمان كان يصعب فيه الوصول إلى أي علم من العلوم. وفي سبيل هذه الغاية كان البحث في هذا الكتاب حول الإمام البخاري وكتابه الجامع الصحيح. حيث عمد المؤلف إلى جعل هذا البحث ضمن قسمين خصص القسم الأول للحديث عن الإمام البخاري وبيان نسبه، وبلده وعصره، وإبراز مواهبه المتعددة: من غزارة علمه وسعة اطلاعه وقوة حفظه وجهوده في خدمة السنة الشريفة ومكانته بين علماء الأئمة. وأما القسم الثاني فقد أفرد للحديث الجامع الصحيح وسبب تأليفه ومنهج مؤلفه وطريقته وعن محتوى الكتاب ومكانته واهتمام العلماء به سلفاً وخلفاً وعنايتهم به وخدمتهم له سنداً ومتناً، شرحاً وبياناً.
