ولمّا كان طلب العلم طريق الأنبياء والمرسلين والعلماء الربّانيين هو المُوصِّل إلى جنات النعيم، كان لهذا الطريق أبوابٌ يُدْخلُ إليه منها، وهي ما ألفه علماءُ الإسلام من متون العلم التي هي الأصول التي تضمن الوصول، فلا طريق للعلم إلا عن طريقها.
فالعلمُ درجاتٌ ورُتب، يبدأ بها الطالب من أولها حتى يصل إلى آخرها، فكانت متون العلم بداية الطلب ومفتاح الفقه والعلم، يأخذ طالب العلم بها، ليجدَ فيها الضالة المنشودة، ويتلقّى شرحها عن أهل العلم الذين تتلقى عنهم علوم الشريعة، فلا يعتمد عليها دون قراءتها على أهل العلم.
ولمّا كان من الواجب بث هذه المتون والإعتناء بها وتقريبها لطلاب العلم وتيسير تناولها، جاءت فكرة هذه المتون، لتعين طالب العلم على الإستعداد لطلب العلم.
هو نظم مبارك في أصول الفقه، بدأه مؤلفه بالمقدمة، ثم باب في أصول الفقه، ثم نظم كتابه في عشرين باباً من أصول الفقه، بدأها بباب أقسام الكلام إلى آخر الكتاب مروراً ببيان ما يفعل في التعارض بين الأدلة والترجيح، وباب الإجماع، وبين الأخبار وحكمها، وباب القياس، وباب ترتيب الأدلة، وباب في المفتي والمستفتي والتقليد، وختم نظمه بباب في الاجتهاد.
