إن الرحلات المدونة مصنفة تبعاً لأسبابها وللدوافع التي ساعدت على القيام بها كما أشار إلى ذلك الأستاذ محمد الفاسي في تقديمه رحلة ابن عثمان المكناسي [ص خ]؛ فمنها الحجازية والسياحية والرسمية والعلمية والزيارية والسفارية، والرحلة المغربية التي عملنا على جمع شتات نصوصها وتحقيقها في هذا الكتاب قد تندرج في إطار الرحلات السفارية: إذ تكون الغاية من سفر صاحبها القيام بسفارة إلى دولة أجنبية، وتكون أحياناً من إنشاء السفير نفسه إن كان في الوقت نفسه من رجال الأدب والعلم [رحلة ابن عثمان ص/ ر]، وقد تندرج في إطار الرحلات الفهرسية، التي تعد من أهم المصادر عن تاريخ الآداب العربية، وهي مفيدة جداً لمعرفة تراجم العلماء والأدباء في مختلف العصور والبلاد العربية، وقد تندرج في إطار الرحلات السياحية، إذ الغاية منها السياحة مطلقاً (الإكسير في فكاك السيرص/ خ) وقد جعلت هذا العمل أقساماً ثلاثة: (القسم الأول: التعريف بابن حموية السرخسي، القسم الثاني: الرحلة المغربية، القسم الثالث: جمع شتات نصوص رحلة ابن حموية من مصادر متعددة أدبية وتاريخية، ثم تحقيقها وتخريج استشهاداتها)، كما أنني جعلت لهذا العمل عنواناً هو: ما تبقى من رحلة ابن حموية السرخسي المسماة الرحلة المغربية، لعلِّي بهذا العمل أكون قد ساهمت في صنع رحلة متميزة جمعت شتات نصوصها من مصادر مختلفة، باعتبارها في حكم الرحلات الضائعة، وآمل أن أكون قد وفقت في ذلك خدمة للتراث الأدبي المغربي وحفاظاً عليه من الضياع، وحرصاً على نشره والتعريف به.
