هدفي الأول وراء هذا الكتاب هو محاولة تسجيل سيرة تراثية تاريخية لمكة المكرمة، من خلال لهجتها وثقافتها المحلية.
وهدفي الثاني،هو تعريف الجيل الحالي، وما يلحق بعده من أجيال، ليس فقط بمسرد قاموسي، وأحيانا موسوعي, لمفردات "مكاوية" استذكرتها فجمعتها ورتبتها ألفبائيا، تيسيرا للوصول إليها، ولكن، إضافة إلى السرد، فإني شفعت كل لفظة بمعناها الحرفي المباشر، ثم الحقت ذلك في كثير من الأحيان، بتوضيح.. شمل: أصل اللفظة، حسب فهمي واطلاعي.
تصريف اللفظة، كلما رأيت لذلك مغزى خاصا.
ما يشبه اللفظة، أو ما يعادلها في لهجة أخرى، كاللهجة الخليجية -البحرينية، مثلا - أو المصرية أو الشامية، أو في اللغة الفارسية أو العبرية وكذلك في الفرنسية أو الإنجليزية.
مرادفات أو مضادات الللفظة، كلما ناسب.
سياق استعمال اللفظة، وخاصة حينما يختلف لمعنى جذريا من سياق إلى سياق.
سرد "مثل شعبي" كلما ناسب ولزم - لزيادة تبيان المعنى أو لتوضيح السياق.
(ولكني أود أن أذكر أن سرد الأمثلة الشعبية هنا "هدف مساعد")
