بدأت العمل فوراً، دون تردد، بحرارة وحماسة شديدين، كنت مدركاً بان سيطرتي عليها كموديل تعتمد على مهارتي كمصور، تماماً كما كنت مدركاً بأن الموضوع بالنسبة إليها هو بمثابة دعوة مغربة لا تقاوم.
لكن تكن حسناء حسب مفاهيمنا الجمالية التقليدية، ولكنها كانت جميلة للغاية.
تمتزج خطوطها وإنحناءاتها بإنسجام رفائيلي، فمها صنعه نحات ماهر عرف كيف يرسمه في خط واحد متحرك يختلط به الفرح كله مع العذاب كله.
عملت بسرعة وهوس فقد كنت مدركاً بأن إذعانها لم يكن كلياً، ارتعشت وأنا أقرأ في تلك العينين الواسعتين الخوف والرغبة في معرفة المجهول، حزن التجربة المرّة الذي يكمن في جذور كل متعة، الشعور العفوي المتكمل بكونها سيدة نفسها، مثل هذه المخلوقات توهمنا بأنها تخضع لنا حين تمنح نفسها، ولكنها في الواقع تخضع لنفسها فقط، تكمن فيها قوة تفوق قوة البشر العادية - فيها شيء حيواني مقدس.
أعمل الآن بحرية أكبر، وبشكل أفضل، ولكن عزلتي ما زالت تؤرقني.
في الواقع، كنت محاطاً بالعديد من الشابات والفتيات ذوات العيون التاهيتية النقية، وبعضهن كن على إستعداد لمشاركتي حياتي، إلا أنني لم اجرؤ على الإقتراب منهن، لقد أربكنني الثقة في نظراتهن، والكبرياء في مشيتهن، والإعتزاز في تمايلهن.
