جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

الموسيقى هي ثاني الفنون الرومانسية بعد الرسم، وهي أكثر الفنون تحرراً من المادة الثقيلة. فالموسيقى تتعامل مع الصوت، والصوت مادة متلاشية، حركة اهتزازية ليس لها شكل جسماني ولا استمرارية فيزيقية. ومن هنا فإن الموسيقى هي من أقدر الفنون على التعبير عن الداخلي، اذ ان الذاتية هي شكلها ومضمونها ومادتها معاً.
والمهمة الرئيسية للموسيقى تكمن لا في تصوير الأشياء الواقعية، بل في ترنين الأنا الصميم وداخليته العميقة، وذاتيته الفكروية. والموسيقى لا تُعبّر عن النفس فحسب، بل تخاطب النفس أيضاً. فهي، تعريفاً، الفن الذي تتوسله النفس للتأثير على النفوس.
وفي هذا الكتاب يرسي هيغل بعض الأسس النظرية، وحتى العملية، لعلم جمال الصوت، وللعلاقات الجمالية بين الصوتية البشرية والآلية وبين التعبير عن العمق الأبعد غوراً للنفس البشرية.
