يرصد المؤلف- فى هذا الكتاب - أحدث التيارات العالمية فى السياسة والثقافة، وهو الاهتمام الذى ظهر فى العديد من كتبه؛ حيث يربط بين السياسة والثقافة وغيرها من الموصوعات المهمة، كما أنه يخصص فصولاً لرصد الثورات والانتقاضات العربية من منظور فلسفى، ومناقشة جذور الربيع العربى، كذلك يتناول القوى الكبرى التى لها تأثير قوى فى العالم كالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ودورها فى الشرق الأوسط، وهل هى تمر بلحظتها الأخيرة فى الشرق الأوسط أم لا؟ أما الجزء الثانى من الكتاب فيعالج قضايا ثقافية؛ حيث يتناول اثنين من الكُتاب هما: جورج أوريل، وجون ميلير فى الكتابة، كما يتعرض لفكر عميد الأدب العربى طه حسين وتصوره لعلاقة مصر بالغرب والحضارة الغربية، وخاصة فرنسا . ويختتم هذا القسم بتجربة الكاتب وبحثه عن المعرفة والثقافة خلال مراحل حياته المهنية والأكاديمية على مدى خمسين عامًا
