إن النقص في الأدوات العلمية التي تهتم بحصر الدوريات الصادرة في ليبيا من عام 1866 حتى العام 2003م، جعل الباحثين يواجهون صعوبة في الحصول على المعلومات، الأمر الذي أدى بالباحثة إلى اختيار هذا الموضوع، وذلك بتجميع البيانات الببليوغرافية من مصادرها المباشرة وغير المباشرة، نتج عنها قائمة ببليوغرافية معيارية قوامها 1093 عنوانًا، من بينها 149 دورية جارية الصدور، كما تركزت أغلب الدوريات في المعارف العامة حيث تبلغ 478 عنوانًا بنسبة 44% تصدرها جهات حكومية تتولى نشرها داخل ليبيا؛ خاصة في العاصمة حيث بلغت 612 دورية أي بنسبة 56% من المجموع الكلي، تنال اللغة الانجليزية نسبة 72% من مجموع اللغات الأجنبية الأخرى، وتسجل فترات التواتر الشهري فما فوق أعلى معدل يتجسد في 491 عنوانًا بنسبة قدرها 45% كما تشهد (مجلة قضايا الحكومة) على أطول فترة تواتر ما بين عددها الأول والثاني قدرها ربع قرن، لقد توصلت الدراسة من خلال تحليل المعلومات إلى تحديد ملامح وسمات الدوريات لمعرفة توزيعها الزمني واللغوي والجغرافي والموضوعي للتعرف على المصاعب التي واجهتها، وأسباب ضياعها والمخاطر التي تعرضت لها وعرض للتشريعات القانونية الصادرة في المراحل التاريخية المختلفة، والعوامل التي تأثرت بها من حيث مراحل نموها التي بلغت ذروتها في الثمانينيات بواقع 308 دوريات، ثم تراجعت بواقع مائة عنوان في العقدين الأخيرين من القرن العشرين. بالإضافة إلى توصلها في نهاية الدراسة إلى مجموعة توصيات هامة.
