يشتمل هذا الإصدار الأحداث لديوان الشمّاخ بن ضرار الذيباني الغطفاني على أربعة أقسام، هي: ترجمة الشاعر بشكل وافٍ مع تحقيق ميلاده وتاريخ وفاته بالنظر إلى القرائن والأحداث المرافقة. ثم عرض القصائد الشعرية مع شرح غريب مفرداتها أولاً ومعانيها ثانياً وكان الشرح بيتاً هو الإجراء على اقتحام المشكلات اللغوية والتعقيدات الناجمة عنها.
وتلا شرح القصائد عرض الأراجيز وهي في مجملها ليست من شعر الشمّاخ وحده، بل هي مساجلات فيها أخذ وردّ بين أضمومة من الرجّاز على طريقة مفاهيم الزجل اللبناني التي تتحاور وتتساهل فيما بينها بين فتل الشوارب، وتفتح الصدور، ونفث دخان النراجيل، ذلك مما يشبه القعقعة بالسيوف في الزمن الغابر.
وفي القسم الرابع خصص حيّز للفهارس من القوافي إلى الأعلام إلى المصادر والمراجع التي تكرر بعضها في معظم الأحيان.
