هذا كتاب جليل، جمعت فيه ما في كلام العرب من الدخيل، دعاني إليه أن المعرب ألف فيه، قوم منهم من لم يحم حول ناديه، ومنهم من دقق في التخريجات الغريبة، وأتى في أثناء ذلك بوجوه عجيبة، وكتاب أبي منصور روح الله روحه، وأجزل في منازل السعادة فتوحه، أجل ما صنف في هذا الباب، إلا أنه لم ينيز فيه القشر من اللباب، فاحبت أن أهدي تحفة للإخوان، بل عروسًا منتقبة بنقاب الحسن والإحسان، وأضفت إليه فوائد، ونظمت في لباته فرائد، وضممت إليه قسم المولد وهو إلى الآن لم يدون في كتاب، ولم يرفع عن وجوه مخدراته النقاب، وقد أوردت منه ما يسر الناظر، ويشرح الخاطر، مع شيء من النقد والرد، ولطائف أدبية تذكر عهود تهامة ونجد وسميته "شفاء العليل، فيما في كلام العرب من الدخيل".
