رواية شاب يرفض أن تضع الحياة في يديه قيودًا، ويأبى أن تهزمه وتقهره، حتى وإن سلبته كل أسلحته، وقيّدته بأصفاد لا يستطيع الفكاك من أمرها. اعتمد الراوي على السرد بضمير المتكلم الذي يقوم به البطل بدور الراوي حميد، بدأ الرواية بمشهد النهاية، وعن طريق التذكر والتداعي استمر السرد بلغة محكمة قوية بلا أخطاء مُستخدمًا ألفاظ ذات دلالات متعددة وعبارات موجزة ومكثفة، يتسم البناء السردي بالإحكام، يعتمد فيع على الرمز، حيث اتخذ من الشرود – وهو ذكر الضأن – رمزًا لنزق الإنسان، واعتزازه بقوته وإعجابه بنفسه، دون أن يدري أنه سيُذبح – بعد ذلك – كما تُذبح الشرود عقابًا لها على قفزها المستمر، اعتمد في بنية السرد على التوليد، أي توليد حدث من حدث، حتى جاء النص نشطًا وسريع الإيقاع
