بدأ الكاتب العمل على تأليف هذا المخطوط بعد طول تفكير وتردد، لأن الأعمال التي قام بها ستالين والأحداث التي جرت أثناء حياته كانت عظيمة وكبيرة جداً بحيث أن تأثيرها طال ليس بلده وشعبه فقط، بل العالم أجمع، إضافة إلى صعوبة شخصيته وتناقضها وتعدد حدودها.
ولمعرفة الحقيقة حول شخصية ستالين ينبغي إزالة جبال من الكتب والأبحاث والمقالات المتناقضة من حيث تقويمها، فإما أن تكيل المديح وتقوم بتجميلها وإما أن تكيل الشتائم وتقويم بتسويد كل شيء يخصها.
يحاول هذا الكتاب والذي استغرق العمل عليه مدة خمس سنوات، أن يكون موضوعياً وأن يقدم ستالين كما هو بإيجابياته وسلبياته بإنتصاراته وإخفاقاته وذلك من خلال تسليط الضوء على أعماله ونشاطاته السياسية والعسكرية، موثقاً كل شيء فيه بدقة الباحث المحترف والعسكري المجرب.
إنه كتاب ذو نوعية خاصة من الأدب، فهو ليس بالرؤية الملحمية ولا القصة السردية، إنه فسيفساء تم تجميعه من أفعال ستالين التي عثر عليها المؤلفون الآخرون، وكان جل إهتمام المؤلف هو تشكيل اللوحة المتكاملة عن سيرة حياة ستالين.
وأخيراً تحق لهذه الفسيفساء أن تقدم للقارئ العربي ليطلع عليها، وليساهم في تكوين وجهة نظر عنها.
