ذات يوم رأتْ - من لا تعتبر نفسها كاتبة محترفة - أنّ ما تسمّيه "خربشات" قد يهمّ صديقاتها وأصدقاءها وقد يصير كتاباً هو في الواقع نشيد حبّ لموطنها الاصليّ بروائحه وبيوته الكريمة ولذاك الزمن الجميل الذي عاشته في كنف أهلها وأقاربها.
بحبّ مصفّى وبطيبة وحنين، تصفُ الكاتبة لقرّائها بغدادَ اليوم بفسادها ومتسوّليها ودفء أهلها الذين لا أهل سواهم. - نسرين مالك
يوم كانت صاحبة الكتاب طفلة أهدتها ابنة خالها نازك الملائكة قصّة ياسمين مفتتحة إيّاها بــ "تحيّة ومحبّة للصغيرة الغالية نسرين"، تبدأ القصّة كالتالي: "عندما غادرتُ العراق إلى أميركا للدراسة قبل خمس سنوات وُلدتْ لنا في المنزل أخت جديدة اسمها ياسمين...".
لا شكّ أنّ القصة طَبَعَتْ مسار نسرين مَلك التي درستْ وتزوّجتْ وهاجرتْ جسديّاً إلى كندا، أمّا روحها فواقفة تحلم للعراق بمصير من لافندر وياسمين.
